An Industrial Oasis in the Heart of Tehran

In the heart of Tehran, Captain Lounge is a multi-level establishment that caters to different demographic groups in the city. The three-story building houses an old-fashioned restaurant, a lounge, a non-alcoholic bar, private rooms, and a rooftop area, providing a diverse range of hospitality options for its guests.

What sets Captain Lounge apart is its clever use of industrial design elements to create a ship-like atmosphere. The palette of materials, reminiscent of a ship's interior, is combined with industrial touches such as ropes, giving the space a bold and adventurous feel. This design approach is evident throughout the space, from the enormous metal rings that illuminate the double-height main level to the Captain room, which features circular glasses into an aquarium.

Unlike many contemporary designs that favor minimalism and smooth surfaces, Captain Lounge embraces warmth and texture. The wooden slats on the ceiling are deliberately arranged in different sizes, creating a haphazard yet visually appealing effect. The floor planks are also laid in a randomized combination of seven pieces, adding further visual interest to the space.

The layout of Captain Lounge is carefully designed to cater to different needs. The ground level is dedicated to dining, while the upper floor offers a more relaxed lounge space. The lighting on each floor reflects this duality, with brighter and larger fixtures on the ground level, and smaller, more intimate fixtures on the lounge floor.

One of the standout features of Captain Lounge is its non-alcoholic bar. Despite the prohibition of alcohol in the country, this space provides ample seating around a ship-like counter, where guests can enjoy refreshing drinks and snacks. It's a unique and enjoyable experience that adds to the overall appeal of the establishment.

Tehran's favorable climate allows for outdoor dining and lounging for a significant portion of the year. Captain Lounge takes advantage of this by offering a spacious rooftop garden. Bounded by plants to ensure privacy and control wind, the rooftop garden features a green wall that helps combat the aridness of the air while providing a soothing backdrop for guests.

By bringing together different groups in a diverse context, Captain Lounge serves as an exercise in fostering tolerance and understanding. Its carefully designed spaces cater to various needs and preferences, creating an inclusive environment that encourages social interaction and enjoyment.
